Info clip: Generative AI in education

Date: 04-11-2025

In a new short info clip, Kyra de Korte, together with Yiran Yang and Bernard van Gastel, explores the use of Generative AI in education for Bachelor students in GPM.

Rather than offering a list of do’s and don’ts, the team aims to stimulate critical thinking — encouraging students to use GenAI responsibly and make informed decisions about when and how to apply it.

Highlights:

  • Yiran Yang discusses bias and hallucinations in generative AI — where they come from and what their implications can be.
  • Bernard van Gastel examines AI’s ecological footprint. Using Jevons’ paradox, he explains why greater efficiency can paradoxically increase overall resource use, and highlights the hidden energy and water costs behind AI systems.

This video is the first in a planned series of short, thematic clips on topics such as open source, ecological impact, experimentation, and sharing best practices.
